Podcast episodes about our changing climate
I’d like to introduce you all to the podcast I produce for the fabulous nonprofit organization called The Walls Project. The podcast is called Walls Plus One and its currently in its second season, which is focused specifically on climate change.
Louisiana is one of the locations in the world already feeling the impacts of our changing climate. Although we’ve been fighting against coastal erosion for many decades now, the rapid intensification of storms and the unpredictable and changing weather patterns are starting to cause some additional factors.
Additionally, Louisiana is one of the poorest states in the nation. We can’t afford to leave anyone behind. So how can we move forward in a way that is both sustainable and equitable?
As gardeners or just garden lovers, I really think this content will resonate with you.
Episode 1: State Climatologist Barry Keim and WBRZ Chief Meteorologist Dr. Josh Eachus join me to talk about the changes we’re already seeing. They break down the science and Josh even explains a bit about how the messages are being communicated.
Episode 2: Our cities are going to have to change. Urban Sprawl is one of the major contributing factors to emissions, but our cities are not the final solution because they need work, too. We also get really deep into a conversation about leaf blowers! Yep, they’re not great, folks. In fact, they’re a lot worse than you think.
Episode 3: What was our land before industry came in and carved it up? Jessi Parfait, a member of the United Houma Nation Tribe, joins me to talk about our native landscape and why she believes we can continue to live on the coast, even though experts will say it’s not safe. And Ian Richardson, who was featured in the last blog, talks more in-depth about native plants.
Episode 4: This one is all about farmers. We start by focusing on the Farm to School program, which is doing some incredible things to educate kids about plants, gardening, and to help bring locally grown food into the schools. Then we talk more about the issues of equity on the farm. We dig into why subsidies are going to be important as we move forward.
There’s so much more coming this season and I would love for you to join me on this journey. After two-decades in the media industry, I feel like this season of the podcast is some of my best work.
